Background

If you’re anything like me, you probably want to know a bit about the person telling you what to do. And even if you don’t, this is my site, so I’m going to tell you anyway.

I’ve been using Photoshop ever since I entered the 7th grade (which means 9 years to you). In all my time with this software there are three things I’ve learned:

  1. There is always more to learn.
  2. There is always someone who knows more than you.
  3. No matter what, there is always an easier and faster way to do what you just did.
(The drawback with this one, however, is you don’t learn it until you’re finished)

The Novel

I began using Photoshop back in 1998 primarily for for web design. As I grew, so did my taste in design. Slowly I migrated from the all too common graphic-heavy sites and closer to the more functional, cleaner designs. More recently, though, I’ve actually started using Photoshop for its intended purposes: photography (imagine that!). I discovered an affinity for photography just before entering college and it has become an all-consuming hobby.

In order to pay the bills in college (I currently attend GVSU, by the way) I started working as an ad designer for the Grand Valley Lanthorn, the school newspaper. This required me to pick up some skills in Illustrator, as that was the required preferred application for the job. It didn’t take long before I had learned ins and outs of Illustrator and began using it like I had been working with it my entire life.

After leaving my position with the Lanthorn I started freelancing full-time. It provided for a much more flexible schedule and a greater amount of personal growth. Most of my freelance income to date has come from designing websites, but I’m beginning to break into professional photography.

In the summer of 2006 I attended Photoshop Soup2Nuts and had the unbelievable opportunity to meet Scott Kelby (co-founder of the NAPP), Terry White (one of the greatest guys and Adobe instructors one could ever meet), and Thomas Knoll (the inventor of Photoshop himself). The following September I had the privilege to attend PhotoshopWorld in Las Vegas. It was part of a life-changing experience.

Currently I am preparing for graduation and a wedding. After all of the dust settles I will be entering a full-time career with His House Christian Fellowship and will be personally responsible for all of their design and photography.

I think that about sums it up… if I missed anything that you wanted to know more about, sound off in the comments!
